Create a Lesson Sequence Template for Any Subject in 60 Seconds

A single lesson is easy to plan. The hard part is making five lessons follow one thread, so that each session builds on the last and students arrive at the goal. A lesson sequence template gives you that thread: a general objective, the order of the sessions and, for each session, an objective with its opening, development and closing. This guide shows how to create one for any subject with the Didactic Sequence tool in Didaktos AI, step by step and with screenshots of the app.

What a lesson sequence template includes

  • General objective: what students will be able to do at the end of all the sessions.
  • Session-by-session progression: four to six sessions in a logical order, from first contact with the topic to applying it.
  • For each session: a specific objective, an opening, a development activity, a closing and the resources needed.
  • Pedagogical progression: how each session prepares the next.

It sits between a daily lesson plan (one class) and a complete unit plan (two or three weeks with assessment). Use it when you have a clear goal that needs several classes to reach.

How to create a lesson sequence template in 5 steps

Our example: five 50-minute sessions in which 7th graders write a persuasive letter to the principal proposing a change at school.

Step 1: Choose Didactic Sequence

Open Didaktos AI and click the Planning category. In Resource Type, choose Didactic Sequence.

Choosing Didactic Sequence in the Planning tools of Didaktos AIThe Resource Type list in the Planning category is open, from Yearly Plan to Complete Unit Plan, with Didactic Sequence selected.didaktos.io/didaktos-aiDidaktos AIYour Educational CopilotENESTool2/4Resource TypeDidactic SequenceSubjectSelect subjectGrade LevelSelect levelContext / StandardSelect standardOutput FormatAutoPlain TextMethodologyPBLCooperativeFlippedGamificationSTEMUDLInquiry+8 moreTopic / InstructionsE.g., Water cycle for 3rd grade…AttachOptional: image, PDF, Word, .txt, .md, .csvGenerate ResourcePREVIEWDocumentOutlinePrintEditDownloadCopyACTIONSSimplify (UDL)Create quizCreate rubricTranslateExpandYour resource will appear hereFill in the form and press Generate ResourceYearly PlanMonthly PlanWeekly PlanDaily Lesson PlanLearning Objectives (Bloom)Didactic SequenceCurriculum AdaptationPBL Project GuideSyllabus / Course OutlineComplete Unit Plan12
In Planning, choose Didactic Sequence to plan several connected sessions.

Step 2: Describe the sequence

Set the Subject, Grade Level and Context / Standard. A methodology tag shapes the whole sequence; here we chose Cooperative so the sessions include pair and group work. Then write three things in Topic / Instructions: how many sessions and how long, what students will produce, and the route from start to finish.

5 sessions of 50 minutes for 7th grade. Students write a persuasive letter to the principal proposing a change at school. Go from reading a model letter to planning, drafting, peer review and a final draft.

Say how many sessions, how long each one is and where students should arrive.

Tip: if you leave out the number of sessions, Didaktos plans between four and six. Say it when your calendar is fixed.

Step 3: Review the progression

Press Generate Resource. The sequence opens with the general objective and an overview of the sessions. Read it as a story: does each session need the one before? In our example, students cannot draft before they plan, and cannot review before they draft.

Step 4: Check each session

Scroll down to see every session in detail. Each one has its own objective and three moments, opening, development and closing, with times that add up to the length you asked for, plus the resources you will need.

Every session has its own objective, opening, development, closing and resources.

If a session does not fit your class, press Edit and ask for the change, for example “make session 4 a gallery walk instead of group review”. Only that part changes.

Step 5: Scan the outline and save it as a template

Switch to Outline view to see the sequence as a list of headings, a quick way to check the progression at a glance. Then press Template and give it a name. Next unit, load the template, change the topic and generate a new sequence with the same settings.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a lesson sequence and a unit plan?

A lesson sequence focuses on the order of four to six sessions toward one goal. A complete unit plan covers two or three weeks and adds essential questions, vocabulary, differentiation and a summative assessment. Both are in the Planning category.

Can I align the sequence to my standards?

Yes. Choose your standard in Context / Standard: Common Core, NGSS, TEKS, the National Curriculum, IB and many national curricula are available.

Can I use my school’s planning format?

Yes, with a Pro plan. Attach your school’s template as a PDF, Word file or photo, and Didaktos follows its sections.

Can I create the sequence in Spanish?

Yes. Switch the app to ES before generating, or use Translate on the finished sequence.

Plan your next sequence
