How to Create Assessments Automatically

Writing a quiz, a rubric and an accessible version of the same test can take a whole evening. With Didaktos AI you can create assessments automatically in two ways: from a lesson you already made, with one click, or from scratch with the eight tools in the Assessment category. This guide shows both, step by step, with screenshots of the app and one example: an 8th grade lesson on the causes of the American Revolution.

Method 1: Create assessments automatically from any resource

Every resource you generate in Didaktos comes with a row of quick actions. Three of them build assessments from what is already on the screen, so the questions match exactly what you taught.

Step 1: Generate the lesson (or any resource)

Create the resource you will assess: a lesson plan, a reading, a worksheet or a unit. In our example we used Daily Lesson Plan with this description:

50-minute lesson on the causes of the American Revolution for 8th grade: taxes, representation and key events from 1763 to 1775. Include a primary source excerpt and a group discussion.

When the lesson appears, look at the Actions row under the preview: Simplify (UDL), Create quiz, Create rubric, Translate and Expand.

Any resource you generate can become an assessment from the quick actions row.

Step 2: Create quiz

Click Create quiz. Didaktos reads the lesson and writes a formative quiz: five multiple-choice questions with four options and the correct one marked, three short-answer questions ordered by difficulty, and a complete answer key.

The quiz replaces the lesson in the preview. To go back, press Undo at the top. Nothing is lost: your lesson is also saved in History.

Step 3: Create rubric

For tasks that are not right or wrong, such as a discussion, an essay or a project, return to the lesson and click Create rubric. You get an analytic rubric as a table with four to six criteria and four levels, from Exemplary (4) to Beginning (1), each with descriptors you can observe in class.

Create rubric: criteria with observable descriptors for each performance level.

Tip: share the rubric with students before the activity, so they know what a strong answer looks like.

Step 4: Make it accessible with Simplify (UDL)

With the quiz on screen, click Simplify (UDL). Didaktos rewrites it with shorter sentences, simpler vocabulary and a clearer layout, about two grade levels below the original, while keeping the same content. It is a fast way to give English learners or students with reading difficulties a fair version of the same test.

Simplify (UDL): the same assessment with simpler language and a word bank.

Step 5: Translate or expand

Translate converts the assessment between English and Spanish, keeping the format. Expand adds examples, extra practice and extension challenges, which is useful when a quiz needs to become a review guide.

Method 2: Start from the Assessment category

When you need an assessment that does not come from a single lesson, such as a unit exam or a diagnostic at the start of the year, open the Assessment category.

Review before you use it

Automatic does not mean unchecked. Before giving an assessment to students:

  • Answer it yourself. Check every key and every distractor.
  • Match it to your objective. Remove questions about content you did not teach.
  • Read it as a student would. If a question can be understood two ways, ask the Edit chat to rewrite it.
  • Keep the balance. Mix recall questions with at least one that asks students to explain or apply.

When it is ready, press Download to get a Word file you can edit, or Print.

Frequently asked questions

Can I create an assessment from my own material?

Yes. With a Pro plan you can attach a PDF, a Word file or a photo of a textbook page, and Didaktos writes the questions from it. See how to generate from your files.

Does using a quick action count as a generation?

It uses less than a full generation: on the Free and Starter plans a quick action counts as a little more than half of one, and on Pro there is no limit. The free plan includes 10 generations every 30 days and Starter 50. Compare the plans.

Can I change the number or type of questions?

Yes. After generating, press Edit and ask, for example, “make it 10 multiple-choice questions” or “add two true/false questions”.

Do the assessments work in Spanish?

Yes. Switch the app to ES before generating, or use Translate on any assessment.

Try it with your next lesson

Generate a lesson, click Create quiz and see your assessment in seconds. Open Didaktos AI. To see all six categories, visit the teaching resources page.
